What Conversion Rate Is Good

Don't know what a good conversion rate is? In this article, we describe what a good conversion rate is for your website

We use conversion rate to differentiate between visitors who perform specific favorable actions on your site or landing page and those who don’t. The conversion rate tells us how many of the visitors did what we (as webmasters) expected them to do. Since any business and website owner aims to make sure that whoever visits them, buys, or pays for something, the higher the conversion rate, the better.

The question is, what is considered as a good conversion rate? – This question is not as easy or as generalized as you might think. For instance, if you are dealing in high valued, very specific kinds of products you may consider a 1% conversion rate as good – like if you are selling very intelligent construction equipment that is nice to look at as well. Many visitors may come to see the product only and be fascinated; they were never going to buy it anyway because of a very limited market and very specific use. On the other hand, if you are selling a common household item, like detergent – you might consider a conversion rate of 5 – 10% as a good conversion rate.

So, what is a good conversion rate?

In a very generalized form, a conversion rate between 2% to 5% is considered a good conversion rate. If you are running a social media campaign, depending on your product, you might end up with 3% to 7% conversion rate and it will be considered as a good conversion rate. With email campaigns, you can boost up to 20%.

It may seem like a very small number but remember not everyone is interested in buying at all the time, and people still rely on and prefer shopping in physical stores.

However, when it comes to services, this number can go higher. For instance, if you measure the number of signups as conversion rate, you may end up with a conversion rate of 30% - 40% and even more in some cases.

How can you make your conversion rate even better?

Some minor changes can boost your conversion rates. Better site design, simple and elegant themes, all these things add up to a better user experience. You can offer other services:

  • Like you can offer “Free Shipping.” The percentage of people interested in purchasing an item without shipping cost and with shipping fee is very high. People prefer Free Shipping. Similarly, offer easy and hassle-free returns. Not everyone is going to return their items, but if you give them peace of mind that if their product arrives broken or not working, you will get it replaced free of cost, this will boost their confidence and eventually sales.
  • Add easy to reach customer support channels. Live Chat has received the best feedback so far. Including a live chat will increase the chances of purchase ten folds. Often a tiny misconception or inquiry about a product feature can lead to abandoned carts. You can avoid those by allowing them to ask questions then and there and make a sure purchase.
  • Safety! Make sure your customers know that your site is safe and that you will keep their data, personal and financial both secure. This will boost confidence, and you will see your conversion rate skyrocket.
